Two New Shopify Tools That Take the Guesswork Out of Improving Your Store

You've put a lot of work into your Shopify store. So the last thing you want is to make a change — a new layout, a fresh theme, a redesigned product page — and watch your sales quietly drop while you try to figure out what went wrong.

Shopify gets it. And in their Winter 2026 update, they've released two tools designed to give you more confidence when making changes to your store. No more crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.

Here's what they are and how they can help you.

SimGym: Test Your Store Before Real Customers See It

SimGym is a new Shopify app that uses AI shoppers to simulate how real buyers would behave on your store — before you publish a single change.

Think of it like a dress rehearsal. You set up your new theme or updated layout, run a simulation, and a group of AI shoppers browse your store just like real customers would. They navigate your collections, look at your products, and add to cart. Then you get a report.

That report tells you what's working, where people are getting stuck, and which version of your store is likely to perform better. All in around 10 to 15 minutes.

Why does this matter?

Traditional A/B testing — where you show two versions of your store to real visitors and wait to see which one wins — takes weeks. And while you're waiting, half your customers are seeing the version that might be losing you sales.

SimGym flips that. You stress-test your ideas first, with zero risk to your live store or your revenue. Then you move forward with confidence.

You can use SimGym to:

  • Compare your current theme against a new one before you publish
  • Audit your existing store to find friction points you might not have noticed
  • Test seasonal layouts or campaign pages before they go live

SimGym is currently in AI Research Preview and runs on a pay-per-simulation model — so you only pay when you actually run a test. Install it from the Shopify App Store under Apps > SimGym.

Worth noting: because it's still in preview, SimGym results are directional rather than definitive. Treat it as an early signal, not a final verdict.

Rollouts: Introduce Changes Gradually, Not All at Once

Rollouts is built directly into your Shopify admin — no extra app needed, and it's free on all Shopify plans. You'll find it under Markets > Rollouts.

The idea is simple. Instead of pushing a new theme or design update live to every single visitor at once, you roll it out to a small slice of your traffic first — say 10%. The rest of your customers continue to see your current store as normal.

You watch how that smaller group responds. If things look good, you gradually increase the percentage. If something's off, you catch it early — before it affects everyone.

It's a low-risk way to make big changes. And for store owners who've been burned by updates that didn't go as planned, that peace of mind is genuinely valuable.

One thing to be aware of: the full analytics and split testing features within Rollouts require the Shopify Advanced plan or higher.

Better Together

These two tools are designed to work as a pair. Use SimGym to get an early read on whether a change is worth making. Then use Rollouts to introduce that change to real traffic gradually and watch the results come in.

Together, they make improving your store a whole lot less scary — and a whole lot more strategic.

If you'd like help getting set up with either of these tools, or you're thinking about a store refresh and want to do it the smart way, get in touch. I'd love to help.
