Selling online can be a competitive business, so many people have an eCommerce store.
It means you constantly have to be on the look out for new ways of making your products stand out. Plus nailing the old tried and true methods too!
But, what are they?
How can you get your products to look their best and encourage sales?
Read on for some of our best tips for showcasing your online products.
High-definition and well-staged photos make all the difference to a product listing page. If a customer can’t get a good idea about what the product is due to poor lighting or a low quality image, they will be less likely to buy.
It also pays to have numerous images of the product from different angles so you can really show it off in all its glory. That way, the customer can see all the different features too.
You might not be a master photographer yourself, so it can be worth investing in the services of a professional to make sure your photos are all awesome quality. If that isn’t in the budget, the supplier of the products might be able to share some of their stock images with you.
When you load the images onto your website, ensure they are a small file size so as not to impact the load time of your website. And make sure they are all the same dimensions so that they look uniform when lined up on a Category page.
It is not uncommon to see just a line or two of text in a product description. Unfortunately, this is also not very helpful for people who want to know more about the online products! Your potential buyers need to be given enough information to be convinced to make the purchase.
You don’t want to go to the other extreme and have a whole lot of unnecessary text in a description just for the sake of it. So, what you do write needs to be meaningful and convincing.
Think about: What is your product offering? What are the benefits of using it? What are the technical specs? How is it unique to other similar things on the market?
So that people can easily browse your site, it is helpful to group products together in a clear and logical way. Pages and pages of unrelated products are too time-consuming and confusing to search through. People will probably give up and try a more well organised store.
The great thing about Shopify is that you can also link to other related products on your product pages, or use an “often bought with” feature to promote other relevant items and make a bonus sale!
Product reviews or testimonials from previous customers are a great way to encourage a sale. Many people will hesitate to buy if they aren’t convinced that a certain product is the right option for them. Being able to read how well the product has worked for others might be just the thing to convince them to add it to their cart!
Search engines find and list results in many different ways, but one of the main ways is via keywords. To optimise and get the best results from search engine listings, make sure you are including relevant keywords in your product descriptions.
For example, if you were selling hiking boots, you could incorporate other keywords like tramping, hike, outdoors, or footwear into the product descriptions. Your products will become more likely to turn up in search engine results because they consist of a variety of relevant keywords.
You can find relevant keywords by looking at your existing analytics, or by using a keyword finder.
Videos are a more creative way of showcasing your products. Consider putting together some brief 30-60 second clips of some of your products in action. Video is a great way to engage your prospects and a different communication method. Some people even prefer to watch a video to learn about a product instead of reading about it. This way, you cater to different communication preferences and could end up increasing your sales.
